How do I prevent cracking at the base of my handles? This is the second time this has happened. Is it drying too fast?

All great suggestions :) also try doing a more curved edge at the top so there is more surface area for the piece to hold on to. Like score and slip the side of the handle to the side of the mug. Edge and edge is tricky. It’s very likely the rim of your mug moves a little more in a firing then of placed a little lower. Clay has a memory and sometimes it likes to go back to where it came from
